Match the cap, pick brightness in lumens, then choose the colour of light for the room.

E14 is the small screw cap used in candle bulbs and small lamps. GU10 has two thick pins and turns into downlight and spotlight holders. Bring the old bulb to the counter if you are unsure.

Watts tell you how much power a bulb uses; lumens tell you how much light it gives. As a rough guide, about 450 lm replaces an old 40W bulb, about 800 lm a 60W bulb and about 1,500 lm a 100W bulb. Our product pages list the lumen figure printed on each maker's datasheet.

Colour temperature is measured in kelvin (K). 3000K gives a warm, yellowish light that suits bedrooms and living rooms. 4000K is a neutral white for kitchens and work areas. 6500K is a cool daylight white for shops, stores and garages. Some bulbs switch between all three.
3000K is warm, 4000K is neutral, 6500K is daylight white.
A non-dimmable LED bulb on a dimmer switch can flicker or fail early, so choose a bulb marked dimmable for those circuits. Inside fully enclosed fittings, heat builds up; check the maker's notes. For outdoor fittings, the fitting itself should carry a suitable IP rating.
Only use a dimmable bulb on a dimmer switch.
