Ask us a questionAs a rough guide, a 42 to 48 inch fan suits a bedroom or small room, and a 56 to 60 inch fan suits a living room or open space. Very large or high-ceiling spaces may need two fans or a larger industrial model.
Bigger rooms need bigger blades: roughly 42 to 48 inch for bedrooms, 56 to 60 inch for living rooms.
For safety and comfort, the blades should sit at least about 2.1 m (7 ft) above the floor. On low ceilings, choose a hugger (close-mount) design; on high ceilings, an extension rod brings the fan down to where the air is useful.

DC motor fans run quietly, use noticeably less electricity and usually offer more speeds with a remote control. AC motor fans cost less to buy and usually work with a wall regulator. Check the maker's datasheet for the speeds, warranty and any light kit.

A ceiling fan needs a secure hook or bracket that can carry its weight and movement. Have a qualified electrician install it and connect any light kit and regulator.
Fans with lights need a suitable switch and wiring at the ceiling point.
